The Pagoda
Welcome to the Pagoda!
A consistent team of teachers provide a stimulating, adaptable, child initiated learning environment at The Pagoda.
ERO Report 2016: 'Children's learning and sense of wellbeing and belonging is enhanced by teachers, including active participation alongside children in play to extend and add complexity to children's learning, together with nurturing and caring interactions.'
While the endorsement of children's own individual interests and ideas are still paramount, the teachers provide opportunities for group work. This focuses on fostering the development of confidence, perseverance and responsibility, allowing children to practice communication and self help skills.
"Koru Club" includes these features, as well as aiming to initiate more in-depth preparation for school. It offers some work with books, reading, numbers and print. All children who attend the Pagoda are exposed to a rich environment of literacy and numeracy on a regular basis.
We have developed strong relationships with local schools and enjoy regular familiarizing visits to new entrants' classrooms.
ERO Report 2016: 'Effectively planned and managed transition times support children and families into a welcoming and familiar environment and on to local schools.'
Our involvement in an MOE based ICT research program has lead us to explore ways in which ICT can be used effectively within an Early Childhood learning environment. Therefore, some of our interactions and documentation have expanded to incorporate a range of multimedia.
