Welcome to the Pagoda!
A consistent team of teachers provide a stimulating, adaptable, child initiated learning environment at The Pagoda. From November 2020 we have introduced 20 hours ECE at The Pagoda.
ERO Report 2020: 'Promoting positive learning relationships is a key focus for teachers. They view each family and its knowledge of their child as an integral part of their learning community.'
While the endorsement of children's own individual interests and ideas are still paramount, the teachers provide opportunities for group work. This focuses on fostering the development of confidence, perseverance and responsibility, allowing children to practice communication and self help skills.
ERO Report 2020: 'The curriculum is responsive to children's interest and promotes successful outcomes.'
"Koru Club" includes these features, as well as aiming to initiate more in-depth preparation for school. It offers some work with books, reading, numbers and print. All children who attend the Pagoda are exposed to a rich environment of literacy and numeracy on a regular basis.
We have developed strong relationships with local schools and enjoy regular familiarizing visits to new entrants' classrooms.
ERO Report 2020: 'Children and families are well supported for their move to school. Through the 'Koru Club' programme, teachers successfully assist older children to plan their own learning and further develop skills and dispositions to aid their smooth transitions.'
Our past involvement in an MOE based ICT research program has lead us to explore ways in which ICT can be used effectively within an Early Childhood learning environment. Therefore, some of our interactions and documentation have expanded to incorporate a range of multimedia.
